London: Chatto & Windus, 1877. Hardcover. Very Good. Vol. 1- xvi + 433 pages. Vol. 2- xii + 447 pages. Vol. 3- xiv + 462 pages. Vol. 4- xviii + 476 pages. 6 x 8 1/4 in. Tan half calf binding on spine and corners with marbled boards, gilt lettering on spines, edges of text block and end papers marbled. Condition of each volume is VERY GOOD: wear to covers and spines heavier at corners, marbled boards lightly worn, top edge of text block darkened, pages very lightly yellowed towards edges, binding tight, each volume with a book plate of David B. Ogden- Vol. 4- with two. Vol.1- heavier wear to corners esp. bottom front corner, nick to top edge of text block. Vol. 2- front top corner a bit more worn. Vol. 4- spine missing 1/2 of leather label reading "Taine", front top corner a bit more worn.
