String bound without wraps as issued. Jarvis was the first historiographer of the Episcopal Church. This is a rare copy of his privately printed account of his resignation as rector of St. Paul's Church over the issue of pew rents. It was an important precedent on the handling of disagreements between the vestry and clergy.

Cover lightly worn and slightly discolored at spine and edges. A very good copy of this scarce first edition biography of a Chinese boy during the last quarter of the 19th Century, written by an unmarried female missionary.
