ALS. 1pg. 7 ½” x 12 ½”. September 10, 1752. Brookfield [Massachusetts]. An autograph letter signed “Joseph Dwight” to Lieutenant Dickinson of Hatfield. He wrote “As I had promised to Capt Keyes to answer his Debt to you I fully intended to have Settled the affair with you when I was last at Hatfield but little disappointment and another prevented, I have some money due in your county, If I can get it shall pay you soon but be that is it will, I’ll endeavor to settle it with you to your Satisfaction and pray you not to give ye Capt any Trouble about it. Description:
JOHN G. FOSTER (1823-1874). Foster was an Union Army General. ANS. 3pgs. August 10-11, 1865. Tallahassee, Florida. An autograph note signed “J.G. Foster” as Commander of the Department of Florida, on the back of a two-page letter. The letter was written by W.R. Pettes, a Union loyalist in Georgia who was seeking recompense for his cotton, which was seized during the Civil War. Pettes originally wrote to a W. G. Burgess, who most have forwarded it on to Foster. Foster, in turn, forwarded it on again to his counterpart in Georgia. He wrote: “Respectfully referred to the commanding officer of the District of Georgia in which Thomasville is located. Mr W.R. Pettes is gentleman of excellent standing here, and a loyal supporter of the Government. I shall be glad to have him afforded facilities for obtaining justice in regard to his cotton. J.G. Foster”. In fine condition with some minor discoloration throughout.

A typed letter signed “George Gershwin” to “Mr. Simon Bucharoff”: “I’ve been looking through your book called A [sic] MODERN PIANIST’S TEXT BOOK and fine that it is practically complete, from a pianist’s standpoint. If I were to go on tour playing the piano, I feel that your book would be the only one necessary to take along, so far as developing and keeping up the technique is concerned. On his official Vice President letterhead, Bush wrote to a Cy Laughter of Ohio about inefficient defense spending: “Dear Cy: Thanks for your letter on cost management. The document is a souvenir copy of the Presidential Oath of Office. “I, Gerald Rudolph Ford, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States Gerald R. Ford THE WHITE HOUSE August 9, 1974”. The date is that of Ford’s inauguration, not the date he signed this version of the oath. It is in very good condition. There is a stamped Pennsylvania address, which has been whited out, below the signature.

He is remembered for his foresight in the development and use of ironclads, as well as urging the enlistment of blacks and blockading the Confederate coast. ADS. 1pg. 8” x 5 ¾”. 7th April 1840. Hartford, CT. An autograph document signed “Gideon Welles P.M” while the future Naval Secretary was Post Master of Hartford. The document reads: “S.M. Mitchell, P.M. [Post Master] at Plymouth…has deposited in this office, sixty seven 09/100 dolls. to the credit of the Post Master Genl, for which I have signed duplicate receipts. Gideon Welles P.M.” The document is in excellent condition, and has an irregular top margin.

The document was separated along the vertical fold and it has been professionally repaired with archival tape; it is in very good condition.
