Campbell stating date of 9 May, 1877 on a separate piece of paper. Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet. He was a founder and the first President of the Clarence Club and a co-founder of the Literary Association of the Friends of Poland; he was also one of the initiators of a plan to found what became University College London. The Illustrated London News, London, 1934. ORIGINAL single color page from an illustrated newspaper, The Illustrated London News (England) dated Aug 11, 1934. Contains a 14" x 10" engraving of a 1546 map / view of the founding of CANADA by Jacques Cartier. The ILN was the premiere illustrated newspaper of the 1st half of the 20th Century !!! The newspaper was 14" x 10" and usually contained 32 pages or more. There are many many pages of gorgeous woodcut engravings (and in later issues photos), highly prized today for their detailed woodcut illustrations of events in World history. The ILN generally contained engravings in different sizes, from double page (20" x 15") to single page (15" x 10") to half page (10" x 7") and at times even quarter page. The Illustrated London News in the 20th Century was printed on high quality white glossy paper stock, quite durable and easy to handle without damage.

[Montreal]: [William Notman], 1865. No binding. Albumen cabinet-size 3-1/2 x 2-1/4 inch original portrait photograph mounted on 8-3/8 x 5-3/4 inch page.Spotting on page but not on mounted photo which is in very good condition. Joseph-Édouard Cauchon was a journalist, businessman, and politician in the middle years of the nineteenth-century. He held a variety of portfolios at the federal, provincial and municipal levels. In 1877 to 1882, Cauchon was appointed the third Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, replacing the retiring Alexander Morris.William Notman (1826-1891) was a Canadian photographer and businessman. Notman was born in Paisley, Scotland in 1826, the same year in which photography was born in France. William Notman moved to Montreal in 1856. An amateur photographer, he quickly established a flourishing professional photography studio on Bleury Street. Notman's reputation and business grew over the next three decades, the first Canadian photographer with an international reputation.
