Erskine Caldwell was an American novelist and short story writer best known for his novels such as Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre about social problems in the southern United States. Caldwell wrote 25 novels, 150 short stories, twelve nonfiction collections, two autobiographies, and two books for young readers.

The collection consists of 12 items dating from 1933 to 1979, specifically 5 souvenir typescripts, 2 letters, 2 first-day issue envelopes, 1 tracing of his hand, 1 card, and 1 photo.

• Tss., "Where the Girls Were Different", 9 pp.

• Tss., "Tobacco Road", 1 p. blue paper.

• Tss., "The Weather Shelter", 1 p. blue paper.

• Tss., "Gold-Fever", 15 pp., chapter 1 of God's Little Acre (1933).

2 Typed Letters Signed (TLS):

• TLS to David Gwinn, 28 November 1972, thanking Gwinn and hoping that he "can ride in your airplane with you up front one of these times."

• TLS to Marshall Bean, 17 August 1977, other materials sent to Bean in a large envelope, has been a writer since his early teen years, has l6ived seven years in Mount Vernon and Portland, Maine.

5 Ephemera:

• Tracing of Caldwell's hand, signed by him.

• Envelope, first day of issue honoring Carl Sandburg, post-marked January 1978, signed by Caldwell.
