Owned by Kitty Scott of Toronto in the 1880's. Charming little autograph album with, inscriptions, a few poems, 2 small coloured flower illustrations and of course many autographs. One of the autographs is a formerly significant person, that of of Harry Cockshutt, Brantford, in 1885. The Hon. Harry Cockshutt (1868-1944) youngest son of Ignatius and Elizabeth (Foster) Cockshutt was educated at the Brantford High School. He was employed in the family business, the Cockshutt Plow Co. Ltd. He rose through the ranks, becoming secretary-treasurer (1888), managing director (1893) and ultimately the president. Alice Ann Dorey was a teacher, a writer, a poet, and the wife of United Church Moderator Very Rev. George Dorey. Alice Ann Dent was born in Cowansville, Quebec. She taught at a school for the deaf in Montreal and wrote poems which were published in Canada, the United States, England, Australia, and some which were translated into Hungarian and Italian. Her book, Light and Shadow, 25pp., was by Ryerson Press in 1949. She also wrote book reviews and occasional articles for The United Church Observer.

London: Bramwell Booth, 1926. No binding. Good. Signature on sheet headed The Salvation Army and dated September] 1926 "Salvation! W. Bramwell Booth." This was written three years before his death.Signature is slightly smudged otherwise strong and bold in good condition. Bramwell Booth (1856 -1929) First Chief of Staff at 24 years old (1881-1912) and the second General of the Salvation Army (1912-1929) succeeding his father, William Booth. His success as General of the Salvation Army includes "invading no less than 25 new countries, it has raised 8,000 officers, organized 6,000 corps and outposts, established 400 social institutions and it preaches the Gospel in 33 additional languages" The Sydney Morning Herald, Feb16, 1929.

He was the last Whig president, and the last president not to be affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican parties. Political parties: Know Nothing or America Party, Whig Party, Anti-Masonic Party By championing the Compromise of 1850, he can be credited for keeping America from civil war for more than a decade. His accomplishments, while not great, were nonetheless substantial. In addition to the fine legislative engineering that passed the compromise, Fillmore also conducted a disciplined, principled foreign policy.

William Rufus Day was an American diplomat and jurist, who served for nineteen years as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to his service on the Supreme Court, Day served as the 36th United States Secretary of State during the administration of President William McKinley and also served as a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Circuit Courts for the Sixth Circuit.

He attended Kings College School later holding positions at King's College London: Professor of Manufacturing Art and Machinery, 1860-1890; Dean of Applied Sciences Department, 1873-1882; Emeritus Professor of Manufacturing Art and Machinery, 1890-1891..

ND. No binding. 3 x 1-1/2 inch card, autograph on ink. Sir Robert Alexander Falconer, KCMG (was a Canadian academic and bible scholar. In 1907 he became president of the University of Toronto. He sought to maximise the independence of the university, battling unsuccessfully to retain German faculty members in 1914. Nonetheless he was knighted in 1917 for his advocacy of wartime recruitment. Falconer wrote several books on current affairs, including The German Tragedy and its Meaning for Canada (1915), Idealism in National Character (1920) and The United States as a Neighbour (1926). Yale University, Honorary Doctorate (1922) President of the Royal Society of Canada (1931-1932).

ND. No binding. Two cut John Pringle signatures, each undated John Pringle was a Presbyterian minister in Canada, the United States and Bermuda. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and studied in Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Quebec. Ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1878, Rev. Pringle ministered in Ontario, Manitoba, and Minnesota (U.S.A.). In 1898, he was called to the Yukon where he served for a decade. He went to Sydney, Nova Scotia, in 1908; he served as an overseas chaplain during World War I, becoming a Lieutenant- Colonel. He was Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in 1919. He continued mission and church work, including in Bermuda and in relief camps in northern Ontario.

Fraser came to Canada on the recommendation of Sir Charles Tupper, to take up a position on the editorial staff of the Toronto Mail (later the Toronto Mail and Empire). He also served as editor of the Scottish Canadian, Massey's Illustrated, Presbyterian Review, and Fraser's Scottish Annual. The Honourable Senator Charles-Philippe Beaubien (1870 - 1949), Conservative, Senator from 1915 to 1949, Senatorial Division Montarville, Quebec. Appointed by R.L. Borden. Alexander Fraser organized the Gaelic Society of Canada in 1887; was its first Secretary, for many years its President. NP: Edward Smith Willard, 1897. No binding. Cut signature of Edward Smith Willard dated April [18]97 on a 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inch piece of paper. Edward Smith Willard was an English actor. He was born at Brighton and made his debut upon the stage at Weymouth in The Lady of Lyons in 1869. He then toured with E. A. Sothern and later joined various stock companies. Coming to London in 1875, he played Antonio in The Merchant of Venice with Charles Rice in 1876. After a varied experience in Shakespearean and other plays, in 1881 he was engaged by Wilson Barrett at the Princess Theatre, where he played in The Lights of London, The Silver King, and other well-known pieces. In 1886, he made a hit as Jim the Penman at the Haymarket. One of his greatest successes was his production of The Middleman by Henry Arthur Jones, at the Shaftesbury in 1889, he himself creating the part of Cyrus Blenkarn and in 1890 made his mark in America.

General Sir Edward Lugard GCB, PC was a British Army officer who He fought in the Afghan War in 1842, the Sikh Wars between 1845 and 1846, in the Sikh Wars between 1848, 1849, in the Indian Mutiny, in command a division at the capture of Lucknow and in the Persian Campaign in 1857. Later as Permanent Under-Secretary of State for War (1861-71) at the War Office.

NP: Hudson Lowe, ND. No binding. Cut signature of Sir Hudson Lowe on 3-1/2 x 2-1/4 inch paper. Hudson Lowe, Anglo-Irish soldier and colonial administrator. In 1815 he was appointed to oversee the incarceration of Napoleon on St Helena, and the following year he became Governor of the island. His period as Bonaparte's gaoler was controversial, as his constant paranoia that the deposed leader would somehow be rescued from his island prison, led to allegations of heavy-handedness and tactlessness.

Sir George Robert Parkin, KCMG was a Canadian educator, imperialist, and author. In 1872 to 1889, he was the Headmaster of the Fredericton Collegiate School, where the poets Charles Roberts, Bliss Carman, and Francis Sherman came under his influence. He attended the University of Oxford in 1873-1874. From 1895 to 1902, he was the Headmaster of Upper Canada College. He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1898 and Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the 1920 New Year Honours for his work with the Rhodes Trust.

He was the son of Thomas Arnold, the famed headmaster of Rugby School, and brother to both Tom Arnold, literary professor, and William Delafield Arnold, novelist and colonial administrator.Harold Bloom writes that "Whatever his achievement as a critic of literature, society or religion, his work as a poet may not merit the reputation it has continued to hold in the twentieth century. Campbell stating date of 9 May, 1877 on a separate piece of paper. Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet. He was a founder and the first President of the Clarence Club and a co-founder of the Literary Association of the Friends of Poland; he was also one of the initiators of a plan to found what became University College London. In 1799 he wrote "The Pleasures of Hope", a traditional 18th-century didactic poem in heroic couplets. He also produced several stirring patriotic war songs—"Ye Mariners of England", "The Soldier's Dream", "Hohenlinden" and, in 1801, "The Battle of the Baltic

1883. No binding. 4 x 1-3/4 inch with name inked on card and dated (4/30/83) and Montreal (location). Henry George Vendoreologist was an ornithologist, and meteorologist and born in Montreal. From 1865 to 1880 he was on the staff of the Geological Survey of Canada. In 1877 he published the first of his Vennor almanacs, in which he ventured, with surprising success, to predict the weather. As an ornithologist, his chief work was Our birds of prey (Montreal, 1876). He died in Montreal on June 8, 1884.

Sir Ernest (Alexander Campbell) MacMlllan was a Conductor, organist, pianist, composer, educator, writer, administrator. A prodigy, MacMillan had composed several songs and played the organ publicly by age 10. During his teens he audited music classes at Edinburgh University and attained both an organ diploma and an Oxford baccalaureate in music. He held a professional position as an organist in Toronto at age 15. MacMillan's fame as a conductor grew rapidly after 1931, when he became conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He led the TSO until 1956, and for the last 14 of those years was also conductor of the TORONTO MENDELSSOHN CHOIR.
