Owned by Kitty Scott of Toronto in the 1880's. Charming little autograph album with, inscriptions, a few poems, 2 small coloured flower illustrations and of course many autographs. One of the autographs is a formerly significant person, that of of Harry Cockshutt, Brantford, in 1885. The Hon. Harry Cockshutt (1868-1944) youngest son of Ignatius and Elizabeth (Foster) Cockshutt was educated at the Brantford High School. He was employed in the family business, the Cockshutt Plow Co. Ltd. He rose through the ranks, becoming secretary-treasurer (1888), managing director (1893) and ultimately the president. Alice Ann Dorey was a teacher, a writer, a poet, and the wife of United Church Moderator Very Rev. George Dorey. Alice Ann Dent was born in Cowansville, Quebec. She taught at a school for the deaf in Montreal and wrote poems which were published in Canada, the United States, England, Australia, and some which were translated into Hungarian and Italian. Her book, Light and Shadow, 25pp., was by Ryerson Press in 1949. She also wrote book reviews and occasional articles for The United Church Observer.

ND. No binding. 3 x 1-1/2 inch card, autograph on ink. Sir Robert Alexander Falconer, KCMG (was a Canadian academic and bible scholar. In 1907 he became president of the University of Toronto. He sought to maximise the independence of the university, battling unsuccessfully to retain German faculty members in 1914. Nonetheless he was knighted in 1917 for his advocacy of wartime recruitment. Falconer wrote several books on current affairs, including The German Tragedy and its Meaning for Canada (1915), Idealism in National Character (1920) and The United States as a Neighbour (1926). ND. No binding. Two cut John Pringle signatures, each undated John Pringle was a Presbyterian minister in Canada, the United States and Bermuda. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and studied in Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Quebec. Ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1878, Rev. Pringle ministered in Ontario, Manitoba, and Minnesota (U.S.A.). In 1898, he was called to the Yukon where he served for a decade. He went to Sydney, Nova Scotia, in 1908; he served as an overseas chaplain during World War I, becoming a Lieutenant- Colonel. He was Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in 1919. He continued mission and church work, including in Bermuda and in relief camps in northern Ontario.

He was born at Brighton and made his debut upon the stage at Weymouth in The Lady of Lyons in 1869. He then toured with E. A. Sothern and later joined various stock companies. Coming to London in 1875, he played Antonio in The Merchant of Venice with Charles Rice in 1876. After a varied experience in Shakespearean and other plays, in 1881 he was engaged by Wilson Barrett at the Princess Theatre, where he played in The Lights of London, The Silver King, and other well-known pieces. In 1886, he made a hit as Jim the Penman at the Haymarket. One of his greatest successes was his production of The Middleman by Henry Arthur Jones, at the Shaftesbury in 1889, he himself creating the part of Cyrus Blenkarn and in 1890 made his mark in America.

From 1865 to 1880 he was on the staff of the Geological Survey of Canada. In 1877 he published the first of his Vennor almanacs, in which he ventured, with surprising success, to predict the weather. As an ornithologist, his chief work was Our birds of prey (Montreal, 1876). He died in Montreal on June 8, 1884.

A prodigy, MacMillan had composed several songs and played the organ publicly by age 10.
