ND. No binding. 3 x 1-3/4 inches, signature on small card. Alexander Fraser was a journalist, historian, lecturer. Fraser came to Canada on the recommendation of Sir Charles Tupper, to take up a position on the editorial staff of the Toronto Mail (later the Toronto Mail and Empire). He also served as editor of the Scottish Canadian, Massey's Illustrated, Presbyterian Review, and Fraser's Scottish Annual. The Honourable Senator Charles-Philippe Beaubien (1870 - 1949), Conservative, Senator from 1915 to 1949, Senatorial Division Montarville, Quebec. Appointed by R.L. Borden. Alexander Fraser organized the Gaelic Society of Canada in 1887; was its first Secretary, for many years its President. He was a key organizer of the 48th Highlanders of Toronto in 1891; the revival of Clan Fraser Society in 1894; and the Toronto Historical Society, of which he was President. NO, 1877. No binding. Cut signature 2-1/2 x 1-3/8 inch paper mounted on a larger paper of Thomas Campbell from his memorandum book and a scrap of writing noted by A. Campbell stating date of 9 May, 1877 on a separate piece of paper. Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet. He was a founder and the first President of the Clarence Club and a co-founder of the Literary Association of the Friends of Poland; he was also one of the initiators of a plan to found what became University College London. In 1799 he wrote "The Pleasures of Hope", a traditional 18th-century didactic poem in heroic couplets. He also produced several stirring patriotic war songs—"Ye Mariners of England", "The Soldier's Dream", "Hohenlinden" and, in 1801, "The Battle of the Baltic
