New York: Cafe' Chauveron, 1950. Soft cover. Good. Original menu of the famous restaurant. One sheet, folded, printing in blue and red lettering. Inserted is a blue and red "Miniature Sample Menu." We judge this to be from the 1950s, but are not for sure. Map of France on back. Browning to edges. This restaurant existed, according to our research, 1957-71. Good.

Milwaukee: Frenchy's, 1955. First Edition. Soft cover. Very Good+. 1st printing thus of Frenchy's restaurant menu circa 1955. 8 1/2" x 11 folded. Black printing on red construction-like paper. Small box on cover with logos of agencies that recommended Frenchy's: Holiday Award, Gourmet Commended, Duncan Hines, & AAA. The menu inside covers most of the 17" x 22" layout, and carefully stapled at the top left side are two additional sheets with special menu offerings from Australian Hare & Kangaroo to African Hippopotamus. Frenchy's offered the most interesting and presumably completely delicious menu: fish, game, surf, turf, prairie, mountain, savannah, etc. Fine condition & rare.

Either this is the second edition or second printing of the first edition, or the book was not actually published until the year after copyright. 451pp. Illustrated in b/w but with frontispiece in color. A poor copy, unfortunately. Binding tight as reglued, but hinges broken, front paste down partial, ffep missing. Recipe in pencil written upside down on recto of frontispiece. Throughout the book including the title page, the (presumably) original owner PINNED news articles and recipes to various pages using a straight pin. I have chosen not to remove these and leave it to the buyer to do so. Several laid in news articles and recipes unpinned. This book was reprinted 10-20 years ago and a possible plan for a collector is to get this early edition and the reprint although the paper used in this early edition are flexible… Read More
