Kitchen Economy Comfort Cooking: The Malleable Range CookBook

By Parson, Catharine E.

South Bend, IN: The Malleable Steel Range Mfg. Co.. Very Good. 1907. Softcover. Original brown paper wrap, staple binding. 8.5 X 3.5. : 79 pp. : The first 23 pages offers the selling points for the available models followed by flues and chimney needs. Recipes are in narrative form with exceptions primairly in breads and deserts sections. Front panel is chipped and there is overall very light soil, otherwise an exceptionally nice copy of early 20th century American cookery. The Malleable Iron Range Company was founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1896 and incorporated in 1899 with Monarch as a trademark. The average price of its ranges was about $60, which was about twice the selling price of the typical range of the time. Despite the high price, the ranges sold well as they were recognized as being a much better quality and easier to use than the typical range sold at the time. At the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon in 1905, the Monarch was awarded the highest prize, the World's Fair Gold Medal. At the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle, Washington in 1909, the Monarch was awarded the gold medal. ; Narrow 8vo 8" to 9" tall .
