New York: The Pond Bureau, (1932).. (1932).. Very good. - An illustrated 4-page brochure printed in black & red on cream-colored paper, 11 inches high by 8 inches wide. There is a short tear to the top edge of each page & a tiny chip to each front edge. Very good. <p>Major James C. Sawders [d. 1960] served in the U.S. Army in World War I and World War II as a chemical engineer, retiring in 1946. After his retirement he began traveling extensively to the Caribbean and to Central and South America, often as a freelance correspondent and photographer. This brochure promotes a series of lectures on his travels for the 1932-33 season sponsored by the James B. Pond Bureau. The lectures are on the West Indies, Mexico, the Rio Grande to Panama, and with the Marines in Nicaragua [Sawder accompanied a Marine expeditionary force during the American occupation of Nicaragua]. Included are a bio and portraits of Sawder as well as reproductions of photos he took during his travels.
