New York: The Century Co., 1881. Hardcover. Poor. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original cloth binding half bound in leather to corners and spine. The reason for the very low condition grade is because the front board is completely detached and the rear board is only hanging on by the binding string. Leather is very brittle and half the spine is missing. Despite the poor condition of the exterior the interior is in much better shape. The interior binding is good in text pages are secure. Paper is toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and smudge marks present. The front end page and rear pastedown both have very light handwriting present which can be easily erased if desired. No library markings, no other handwriting found on text pages. The exterior the book is in poor condition but the interior pages are VG or better. This is a good candidate for rebinding or for reference purposes. Pages start at 497 and end at 996.

Cover corners and edges are bumped and rubbed, scuffing to cover faces, wear to joints, spine ends are bent and starting to fray. Hinges and spine loose. Half title page has tape-reinforement on edge. Pages 487-490 are removed from book, edges are heavily chipped and torn. Endpapers and pages are browning, foxing marks throughout (some pages very foxed), other pages dirty, small tears to page edges. Book in Fair to Good- condition. Despite the rough exterior the interior binding is in better shape and text pages are tight with no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is minor scattered foxing and spotting present. The lower outside corners of pages 90-130 show crimping, remaining pages are unaffected. Please note: both boards are precariously held on, the front board is held on by the three sections of binding string but the rear board is only held on by the center one.
