Six months of the famed magazine bound together by the publisher, The Century Company, in discolored black cloth-covered heavy board covers with titling in gilt on spine. Two holes in spine. Includes the months of May, 1901 through October, 1901. With 4 page table of contents inserted before first month. Pages intact, though some have tears, soiling or markings. Volume is firm and tight, but textblock edges with soiling. --- Each issue of St. Nicholas includes stories, often by well-known authors, as well as dozens of charming illustrations, photos, riddles, poems, letters, and non-fiction articles written for young people. One series of stories, 'Careers of Danger and Daring' is continued here from Part I of Volume XXVIII profiling firemen, bridge-builders, wild-beast tamers and others, by Cleveland Moffett, appears in this work. This delightful collection of magazines provides an insight into the way of life in the US at the dawn of the 20th century. Mary Mapes Dodge won fame as the author of 'Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates'. In her role as the self-styled 'Conductor' of St. Nicholas Magazine, she was able to attract numerous well-known authors and illustrators to submit contributions. ; 7-1/4 in. wide x 9-3/4 in. tall; viii, 573 pages .
