Privately printed Christmas gift book by Dr Burlingame, who selected letters and passages from Dickens's "American Notes" in an effort to shed light on the author's thoughts regarding his first American sojourn. Illustrated with frontispiece and four plates. Illustration on cover taken from the title of the first edition of "Martin Chuzzlewit," depicting stage much like the one Dickens did much of his traveling on when visiting the United States. A slim 30 page book in fine condition. Uncommon thus. Podeschi D215. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
