About This Item

Norman: OU, 1932. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 1st printing. Decorated cloth. 359pp. Illus. Hand-drawn map of the Osage Agency in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, is printed on the end papers. Also, there is a folding map of the agency following p.40. Presentation copy to Bill ____ "with the hope that he will find pleasure in the reading of this book," signed by Mathews and dated Pawhuska, December 21, 1932 (year of publication). A wonderfully written book by an Osage citizen & Rhodes scholar about life among the Osage in the late 1800s when the apparently beloved Laban Miles was the agent. The Osage are presently in the spotlight again with the release of the Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon. Slightly soft cover corner points. Front hinge a little floppy with hinge starting but paper splits reglued. Still a very good copy in vg dj with traces of edgewear. NOT price-clipped. Very scarce signed and in dj. Dobie p35, Campbell p81, Rader 2366.
