London: Chapman and Hall, 1887. First Edition. Octavo. Publisher's maroon cloth boards, lettered in gilt on spine; floral endpapers; vii,[1]-343pp; map frontispiece. Endpapers darkened, but joints sound; slight external rubbing and a few tiny chips to marginal extremities of text; text quite fresh and still a solid, attractive copy, easily VG. Contemporary, embossed private library stamp to rear endpaper (W.H. Smith & Son / Library / 186 Strand). Anthropological study of the Twi people of the Gold Coast (now Guinea), based on Ellis's observations as a British army officer during and after the Third Anglo-Ashanti War (1873-1874).
