Account of the collapse of the New York City public school system.

[Washington, D.C.]: Democratic National Campaign Committee, 1938. 19 quarto broadsides (12" x 7-1/2" - ca. 30.5cm x 19cm), with text and illustrations printed recto-only in black on variously-colored stock. Light upward curl along lower edge, and a few broadsides with subtle toning to extremities; two examples with some old, faint splash marks, and a handful with modest wear along upper or lower edges, along with some small nicks, short tears, and attendant creases; Very Good to Very Good+. A near-complete set of broadsides (3 lacking) trumpeting the accomplishments of FDR in his first term and warning against the regressive social and fiscal policies of the Republicans. Each broadside on a different theme: Housing; the WPA; Trade Policy; Taxes; Farm Relief, etc. The broadsides were issued in 1938, probably for the mid-term elections of that year. OCLC shows none of the broadsides to be separately cataloged, though we note sets held at Stanford and the Wolfsonian.

Dustjacket is unclipped, with a few small edge chips and tears, and a larger chip about one inch deep at the base of the spine; Very Good. The Warden's non-fiction account of his twelve year tenure at Sing Sing prison, where he gained a reputation both for reforming prison conditions and humanizing those behind bars. Basis for the 1940 film Castle on the Hudson, directed by Anatole Litvak and starring John Garfield, Ann Sheridan, and Pat O'Brien.

[Pittsburgh: Know, Inc, 1970]. First Edition. Quarto (27.75cm.); green and white self-wrappers staplebound at top left-hand corner; 6pp.; printed from typescript. Fine. One of the author's most important pieces published at the height of the second wave feminist movement, arguably second only to her classic "Bitch Manifesto" (1969). OCLC locates 11 copies.

Full text of the lecture Chisholm delivered at the Conference on Women's Employment in Chicago, Illinois, on January 24, 1970, an event sponsored by the Chicago chapter of NOW. Shirley Chisholm (1924-2005), a New York City Democratic Congresswoman, was the first major-party Black candidate to run for President of the United States. First volume of hearings (4 volumes were eventually published) on proposed "Right to Life" legislation following the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision guaranteeing women the right to seek an abortion within the first three months of pregnancy. This volume includes testimony of Senators Jesse Helms, James L. Buckley and Ernest Gruening; Reps. Bella Abzug, Donald M. Fraser, Ron Dellums, Clare Booth Luce, and many others including civilian witnesses and numerous representatives of the clergy.

The author, now mostly remembered as one of America's leading early hymnodists, here stresses the importance of moral and practical education for women, to achieve "...the formation of pure and elevated tastes" and develop a "moral sense" and "conscience." Boston: Hiram Tupper, 1829. First Edition. Octavo (21cm). Disbound pamphlet in plain paper wraps; [1]-18, [4]pp. Withdrawn from the New York Society Library, with discreet ex-library stamps and pencil call number. Externally slightly browned, else Very Good. William Russell was the first editor of the American Journal on Education, and worked briefly as a teacher with Bronson Alcott. He lectured and published extensively on education. In this pamphlet, he discusses infant schools in the U.S., their curricula, their importance to young mothers, the role of education in early character development, and the influence of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. 10 copies recorded in OCLC.
