First edition, with publisher's review slip tipped-in at the front. x,69 pp. Slim octavo, black cloth, gilt lettering at spine. A near fine copy; faint foxing to endpapers, and few spots of marginal soiling, else clean and crisp. In a dust jacket which is heavily foxed, being more apparent on the thin strip of white at the fold-in of the upper panel and on the white lower panel, shows light edgewear, and has a closed tear at the lower fold-in. Lowell's second book, containing "The Quaker Garveyard in Nantucket," it was greeted with critical acclaimn.

List of 274 subscribers, (pp. 107-111) with the number of copies each ordered (where more than one), includes Czar Alexander I of Russia; King William I of the Netherlands; King Frederick William III of Prussia; Commander-in-chief of British forces, Field Marshal Frederick, Duke of York and Albany; and the Duke of Wellington. Inscription dated 1833 on front fixed endpaper. Although this poem is frequently attributed to the Poet Laureate William Whitehead, he died in 1785, 30 years before the Battle of Waterloo. A hint of browning and spotting to the extreme edges of several sheets, else a fine copy of a scarce and very elegant production, which includes signed etchings by noted Irish-Scots artist and Aosdána member William Crozier, and print maker Elaine Shemilt, plus Frances Caynes, Lorraine Dabin, Camilla Edwards, Richard Harvey, James Heward, Sarah James, Ruth O Dell and Andrew Smith. First edition of Agee's first book. Slim octavo. 59 pp. Green cloth, lettered in dark green at spine. The paper is very lightly age-browned at perimeters, and the cloth is sunned a bit at spine and along the top-edge of boards, else fine. In a near-fine green dust jacket which is sunned at spine and shows light wear along the top-edge, with a few closed tears.

Small bump to last few leaves of volume one otherwise a fine bright set. From the library of a Wedgwood family member with gift inscription dated 1908. A very nice set.

1907 1st ed Dream of Fair Women Harrison Fisher Girl Illustrated Color Poetry

Harrison Fisher, the "Historian of American Beauty," was an American illustrator whose works regularly appeared on the cover of 'Cosmopolitan' Magazine in the early 1900s.
"At the top of the heap stands Harrison Fisher, creator of the Fisher Girl and most popular of all Americans who ply brush and pencil for reproduction. By reason of his industry and because of the uniform soundness of his drawings and color sense, he is the acknowledged master of the pretty girl picture"(Cosmopolitan).
This first edition of the book 'A Dream of Fair Women' is filled with romantic full-color illustrations of the "Fisher Girl" type. The illustrations are inspired from the text of famous poems decorated in Art Nouveau style by E. Stetson Crawford. A fine piece!
