About This Item
London: Secker and Warburg, 1954. First Edition. Small Octavo. First UK edition signed by the author on the title page. 288 pages. One of the great first novels by the writer who was a founder of the Paris Review. The New York Times reviewer said that this book revealed that Peter Matthiessen has already distinguished himself among the youngest literary generation. Now with his first novel, "Race Rock," he assumes immediate place as a writer of disciplined craft, perception, imaginative vigor, and serious temperament. This is the story of four young Americans and of a tempest of violence which transforms their lives. A near fine copy bound in blue cloth, spine lettering silver with a very minute bumped corner in clipped dust jacket lettered in black and brown some chipping to corners and spine ends. Very nice.
