About This Item
Smaller format hardcover, published by Modern Library, 1929. No dust jacket. Identifying the firsts of Modern Library editions can be tricky. Considering that this copy has the somewhat flexible 'leatherette' style cover, with the pebbled texture to the cover - which was in use from 1925 to 1929, this is most likely a first edition of this Modern Library version. It also has the Bernhard end papers too. First published in 1859, the classic story of how Sir Austin Feverel attempts to educate his son, Richard, according to theories of sexual restraint. 592 pages, 4-1/4" X 6-5/8". No dust jacket. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are relatively clean, with a couple of smudge marks to the top and bottom edges. Binding is tight and square. All lettering on the spine is intact and legible. The attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
