The Burakumin are a class of people in Japan considered to be untouchables, traditionally associated with jobs such as butchery, tannery, performing executions, and other forms of work considered to be "unclean." While this caste status was abolished after the Meiji Restoration, there continues to be discrimination against their descendants.
