New York: Vantage Press, 1975. Hardcover. 79p., 5.5x8.25 inches, red boards, dj lightly shelfworn, very good. Letters to his family from a Finnish engineer who headed an oil drilling company in Baku, Azerbaijan in the 1880s. Well-written and nicely translated into English, they offer insights into life on the wind-swept steppes bordering the Caspian Sea. The petroleum interests were owned the Nobel brothers, later best known for endowing the Nobel Prizes.
