About This Item
NY: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1897. Scrapbook. Illus. by 1918 Body Building/ 1897 House Building. Good. Hardcover. 1897/1918. --TRADE CATALOG & HEALTH SCRAPBOOK-- original 1897 oversized-folio of architectural designs,'How to Build, Furnish and Decorate', published by The Co-Operative Building Plan Association (NY) was repurposed in 1918 by Ralph Kister to scrapbook letters & photographs from the 'Lionel Strongfort Physical Culture Correspondence School (Newark, NJ). German bodybuilder & wrestler Lionel Strongfort (born Max Unger) was the author of 'The Strongfort System of Physical Culture, or Strongfortism'- a correspondence school method for personal physical exercise. The scrapbook has several signed letterheads from Strongfort himself, a receipt and many b&w photographs showing his exercise program. The original trade journal is about 212-pages, with full-page architectural plans, renderings and related advertising. 'The Strongfort System of Physical Culture' correspondence school stuff, with many b&w muscle-man photos, are attached to about 27 pages. In good condition overall, displays quite well - a unique scrapbook combines the human desire for housing and body building!.
