About This Item
Lugduni Batavorum (Leiden): C. Boutesteyn, J. Du Vivie, J. Severinum and A. De Swart, 1701. [72], 651pp, [117]. Full contemporary vellum, morocco title label to spine, with small label to foot of spine. Title label a little rubbed, vellum slightly grubby, internally the text is lightly browned but generally quite clean. Additional engraved title, title in red and black. A reprint of the first Graevii edition (1688), but with all the important notes. Dibdin notes (of the earlier Graevii edition) that "these editions, containing all the variorum notes and those of Graevius, are much superior ... Graevius ... corrected the errors of Bongarsius, and formed the text of Justin by sober critical rules. The four last editions are preferable, as they contain the notes of Faber, Vorstius and Scheffer" (Dibdin 4th ed. page 139). The notes mentioned above are all included in this variorum edition. Harwood page 208. Latin text. Reprint. Full Vellum. Good. 8vo.
