Internally lightly browned throughout, but nothing too obtrusive. The 'Constitutional Politician' is John Wilkes; 'The Remarks of a Briton' concerns the trial of L. Balfe and E. Slightly creased, small scuff to head with small amount of loss, otherwise quite bright and clean. "Thomas Grimston, of Kilnwick and Grimston, offered to raise a cavalry force in Holderness and he set about his task with characteristic thoroughness. He issued the articles of enrolment, based on those of the Northamptonshire Yeomanry, and then travelled round the Holderness villages explaining his plans to the farmers. The response was very poor, and he followed up his visits with letters to the Clergy suggesting that parish meetings be called so that the importance and purpose of the proposed corps could be explained to all the parishioners. Dated June 7, 1776 and made out to the Earl of Bristol, the receipt is for 4 yards of French [indecipherable word]. The docket title to the reverse appears to note the purchase of ?soup strainers, so the receipt is probably for a thin fabric for straining soup. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 48mo (Oblong). Both with drop-head title and a docket title to final leaf (trimmed with loss to second mentioned). Lightly browned, faint blue number to head of both. The second mentioned is an answer to the first, noting that it was a paper printed and distributed by [Peter] Taylor, this being a reply on the part of Mr [Robert] Child. Relates to the election of Members of Parliament for Taunton in 1721, both Trenchard and Smyth (Smith) were duly returned. Lightly browned internally, small worm track to top margin of second volume, very gradually becoming larger towards the end of the book, catching a couple of letters here and there, but without any real loss of sense. ’The Clerk of Assise’s Circuit Companion’ has a separate dated title page on 2Q5r; pagination and register are continuous. The gap in pagination is not noted in ESTC, but it seems to be complete, the catchword is correct, and it corresponds with the example in ECCO. First published in 1738/9.
