About This Item
Tunbridge Wells, Kent: The Founding Press, 1992. Limited Edition. Octavo. Limited to 500 copies of which this is number 48. 10 (1) pages. The text is taken from The Little Review, May and September 1917. This work is T.S. Eliot's only short story from which two sentences must be added to the official canon. "There are evil neighborhoods of noise and evil neighborhoods of silence, and eeldrop and Appleplex preferred the latter as being the more evil." and "With the decline of orthodox theology and its admirable theory of the soul, the unique importance of events has vanished." Eliot had projected a much larger work and he created two outwardly conventional figures (one is a bank clerk [an occupation of Eliot's at one time] who rent rooms in a disreputable part of London to conduct a "survey of contemporary society". The sketches are full of Eliot's imagery which will be integrated into much of his richest poetry. A fine copy bound in stiff wraps lettered and decorated in black and green.
