New York: Charles Scribner & Company, 1871. First US Edition . Hardcover. VG-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. W. Roberts. Hardcover, no dust jacket as issued. Bound in green cloth with gilt illustration of a soldier, gilt on spine. First US edition thus with single publication date of 1871 on the copyright and title pages. Forest green end pages with front pastedown having owner's bookplate and first end page has penciled writing which states " Room no. 6, City Hotel, Frederick MD" and the rear pastedown also has a small number written in pencil in the corner. The second front end page bears the original owner's signature - also in pencil. These may be erased if desired but the original owner's bookplate and signature belongs to F. C. Knott - a noted banking executive and officer of Confederate Memorial Association for Frederick County. Scattered foxing is present as well as page edge toning. No hinge cracks found. Exterior has some spotting and corner bumps. Book condition grades as VG-minus. See photos.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.

We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
