About This Item
Kristiania: H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard), 1907. Hardcover. Very Good-/No Jacket. Frontispiece Portrait & Photograph; Cover Art By L. Moe (Louis Moe?). Norwegian language. Two volumes bound in edge-beveled navy cloth with titles and art nouvelle decorations stamped in gilt. Covers signed by L. Moe, quite possibly Norwegian artist Louis Moe. I: 334 pages; II: 641 pages. Both volumes have decorated endpapers with all edges marbled. Volume I carries a frontispiece photograph of Bjornson, with the tissue guard present; a second photograph, of Bjornson and his wife, follows the dedication page. Volume II has full-page photographs of Bjornson and his wife bound at page 306; there are a few partial page illustrations also. Both volumes have a gift inscription (to the same person, indicating these have always been a set). Volume I cloth shows moderate edgewear, with slight frays at the corners and spine ends. Frontispiece and title page have dampstained edges; quite peculiar, actually, as these marks appear nowhere else. The contents are slightly shaken, with a bit of mull exposed between leaves 96 and 97, but nothing loose or even about to be loose. We noticed a few marginal check marks, but no writing or underlining, excepting the former owner's name to the front free endpaper. Hinges solid; binding square. Volume II cloth shows moderate edgewear with both hinges cracked but not separated. The text is clean and unmarked. An uncommon set. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
