Pages lightly foxed. Pencil inscription on front free endpaper reading "This is supposed to be written by the marine who shot Lord Nelson at Trafalgar! 1898" which has also been underlined in the preface. Otherwise clean throughout. Good to very good.

Slightly sunned spine, bumped spine ends and corners. Missing front free end paper, offsetting from front paste-down to title page, light occasional foxing, else interior is unmarked. The first edition of this work appeared in French in 1825, and was translated into English in 1826. This edition includes a Preface with a brief history of Guillemard's military career. A first-hand account of the Napoleonic Wars from the French viewpoint. Includes notes. xv + 342 pages. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition Thus. 1st Printing. 1898.

Description:
London, Hutchinson & Co. 1898 1st thus. Hardback, 8 x 5 inches. Maroon cloth with gilt lettering to spine and front, with blind embossed ‘flag’ decoration to front. Plain endpapers. In very good condition. Rubbing to extremities, corners bumped with chip to top corner of front board and top of spine. Two small bumps to leading edges. Endpapers darkened with small glue repair to front. Embossed stamp to top of title page “With the Publishers Compliments,” neat inscription adjacent. A couple of very minor spots inside, else pages very clean and tight throughout. 342 + 2pp cat.
