1862 Japanese Shaka Hassou Buddha Gods Demons Samurai Illustrated Mantei Oga

A rare, 19th-century Japanese woodblock print of 'Shaka Hassou Yamato Bunko." "Shaka Hassou Yamato Bunko" is a biography of Buddha written by Mantei Oga and illustrated by Ichiyousai Toyokuni. Buddhism originated in Northern India, or present-day Nepal where the historical Buddha (Prince Siddhartha, Gautama Buddha), was born and lived. When Buddhism arrived in Japan, Siddhartha became known in Japan as Shaka or Shakamuni. Stories of Shaka's life were commonly told through selecting eight events to represent his life. This 'Shaka Hassou,' was aimed at the general populace, using the "eight phases" as a device to teach the important points of Shaka's life as well as a means of entertainment.
This rare 1862 edition is written in the typical handwritten column format with illustrations of weapons, battles, animals, samurai, courtesans, gods, skeletal demons, and more!

Description:
1842 William Wilberforce Practical View + Memoir England Slavery Slave Abolition
William Wilberforce was an 18th-century British politician who is best remembered for his role in helping abolish slave trade in the western world. His campaign to abolish slavery led to the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833, which inspired author Thomas Price to publish a memoir highlighting Wilberforce's role in the slavery abolition.
This 1842 printing of Wilberforce's "Practical View of the Prevailing Religious System" was published in London by Scott and Webster. At the end of the 18th-century Wilberforce was a staunch supporter of the evangelistic efforts of the Church of England and to this, he published this exposition on the New Testament. 'Practical View' offered realistic practices for Protestants and charged Great Britain to turn from immorality and return to Christianity. In addition to 'Practical View', this book contains Wilberforce's 'Memoir'.

1854 HEBREW Duties of the Heart Jewish Law Vilnius Lithuania RUSSIA Judaica
A rare, 19th-century traditional Hebrew text printing of the 'Chovot HaLevavot' or 'The Duties of the Heart'.

'Duties of the Heart' was written by 11th-century Rabbi Bahya ibn Paquada – a book which discusses unity with God, characteristics and attributes of God, Jewish worship practices, Jewish law, asceticism, and the immortality of the soul.
Hebrew texts from this era are considered quite rare, but this edition was published in Vilnius, Lithuania while it was under control of the Russian Empire. Nearly half of the population in Vilnius was Jewish in the second-half of the 19th-century so it is unsurprising to find Hebrew books printed in Vilnius.

This rare 1858 printing of "The Story of Jack and the Giants" is a 19th century children's book, written and illustrated by Richard Doyle, with engravings by George and Edward Dalziel. The book tells of the exploits of Jack the Giant Slayer, a commoner who through his wit and bravery becomes a knight of King Arthur's Round Table, with Doyle's charming illustrations bringing the picaresque story to life. The Dalziel brothers transformed 35 of Doyle's original drawings into woodcut engravings, capturing the detail and texture of Doyle's original illustrations.
