John Jenkins' book 'Voyage of the U.S. exploring squadron' is a condensed voyage anthology, covering the United States Exploring Expedition, the discoveries of Dumont d'Urville and Captain Ross, and an account of the expedition to the Dead Sea under Lieutenant Lynch. The book focuses on the Wilkes expedition and Lynch's Expedition which were important for American Oceanography. Jenkins broke the book down into expeditions in the Pacific and the South Seas and Lynch's expedition to the Dead Sea and the River Jordan two parts.
This 1852 edition is illustrated with 10 black and white full-page plates one of which is a map of '(Marshall's) Gold Placera first Discovered'.
