Miscellaneous Works in Verse and Prose of the Late Right Honourable Joseph Addison, Esq; With some Account of the Life and Writing of the Author, by Mr. Tickell. Three Volumes. Original 1736 edition newly rebound in handsome brown full-leather. Occasional light foxing and browing of page edges. The volumes contain plays, essays, poems and dialogues. Vol. III has 235 pages devoted to "Dialogues Upon the Usefulness of Ancient Medals, Especially in Relation to the Latin and Greek Poets." Many illustrations of the medals are included. Addison was born in England, educated at Oxford, and then he entered politics. He married the Dowager Countess of Warwick in 1716, died in 1719, and was buried in Westminster Abbey. Very Good interior in Fine outer binding.

In Good+ Condition: the leather author-title labels are lacking almost entirely from the second and fourth spine compartments; vol. 2 leather splitting from head of back joint; lacking leather from head of vol. 3 spine and from first compartment of vol. 4; the blue calf has darkened and begun to crack on the spines; boards are rubbed; a few leaves are browning and foxing; otherwise, clean and solid.

Some corners are bumped, some fore-edges are bumped. There is a dent in the spine (on the title) on Volume VI. All edges of text blocks are foxed, and the text has sporadic foxing. Volumes are all from the personal library of Josiah C. Wedgwood; each volume has the personal bookplate showing the coat-of-arms of Josiah C. Wedgwood on the front pastedown. Each volume contains an inscription of ownership by Josiah C. Wedgwood dated 1901. Small sticker shows books were purchased in the same town as Josiah lived (Newcastle-on-Tyne). Josiah C. Wedgood the 4th (1872-1943) was a British Liberal and Labour politician who served in the government under the Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald. This is a six-volume set of the complete works of James Whitcomb Riley, presented in the order that Riley composed the poems. The books show some wear at the corners and the head and tail of the spine. All have gilt on the top page edges. Volume three has a slice in the fabric over the spine and Volume two has a 1.5 cm split on the top edge. Each volume has a frontispiece (photo #7 shows the one from volume six). Hinge splits (like the one shown in photo #6) have occurred in the front of volumes 1-3 and in the rear of volume 4. Small amount of water stain along the top edge is evident in volumes 5 and 6 (see photo #8). All pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Gift inscription, dated 1914, on the front endpapers of volumes 1 and 2. This set will ship at over 9 pounds, so it is not available for international shipping. Volume 1 features B&W frontispiece of Tennyson; frontispiece and tipped-in protective tissue are intact.All volumes have some staining, bumping, and wear on the covers. The tops and heels of spines have some fraying. Pages are age tanned with occasional small staining. FON written in front endpapers of all volumes; volume 1 also has some small marks on FFEP.
