A signed first edition of British physician and Conservative party politician Francis Fremantle's account of his time serving as a medical officer with the British Army during the Second Boer War.To the front free endpaper is the inscription ' Dr George Thornton M. D., from an old Wynberg colleague, well-wishes friend, F. E. Fremantle, Nov. 1901'. Wynberg was a Military Hospital in Cape Town, used by the British Army during the war.Below this, a former owner's inscription notes that George Thornton was godfather to Dr. Symons, one of the nineteen men that appear on plate 8, page 62.Illustrated with thirty-four photographic plates, and with numerous further illustrations from George Watson. Collated, complete.Offering personal insight into the casualties of the Second Boer War. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
