About This Item

No Dust Jacket Book: Blemishes - Light rubbing on panel edges caused by shelf storage. Light soiling on page edges of a few of the pages. The LR front panel is curled (photo). The book has a Preface and commercial advertisements (Paris) on all but the Title Panel (photo). For a century-old crudely bound publication--with paper of any quality a rare commodity during the mid-point of World War I--this is a remarkably preserved and rare limited-edition copy. Unblemished photographs and drawings on every page and the binding is still firm and strong. Heavily biased (propaganda) Belgian account of the German invasion and occupation of World War I Belgium. "Cometh the day that all shall pay." For a more objective of this moment in WW I history, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_invasion_of_Belgium_(1914) Before-and-after monochrome photographs and inked illustrations of German shelling and bombardment of prominent Belgium landmarks and buildings (photo). Recent reprints of this book are readily available in both new and used condition. Taken from Amazon's description of contemporary re-print: "This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you will see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work." This offering is an original First Edition, including editing flaws and misspellings. BONUS TIP-INS AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: Included in the purchase is a unique collection of newspaper articles from prominent US newspapers (e.g., New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle). The clippings all pertain to wartime Belgium and the Belgium Royal Family. The latest dated article was 1929. The newspaper articles and illustrations are heavily toned but still legible (photos). This compilation, by a Belgium patriot living in the US, whose identity is lost to history, was recently discovered along with the listed book, and adds to the scarcity of this offering. Free shipping and the contents will be carefully wrapped and packaged to maximize safe and guaranteed delivery of this unique and historical collection.
