About This Item

Boston: Ginn and Company,, 1941. First edition, first printing, presentation copy from the author to his elder brother Robert Cloyd Quine and his wife Rosalie, inscribed on the front free endpaper "greetings to Bob & Rosalie from Van". Quine wrote Elementary Logic while teaching an introductory course in the subject in 1940, and discovering that current texts in the subject did not do justice to either quantification theory or first-order logic. It was used as a standard textbook in the subject for many decades. With an original offprint of an article by Quine from Mind loosely inserted, "Discussions on a So-Called Paradox" (vol. LXII., no. 235, January, 1953, pp. 65-67). Octavo. Original black cloth, spine and front cover lettered in red, blind archer device against gilt ground to front cover. Spine and extremities lightly sunned and rubbed; a good copy.
