Original brown cloth binding with decorations and lettering in gilt on front board and spine. Aimed at the amateur prospector for gold, diamonds and other precious minerals, this book has six engraved illustrations. An unusual piece of Western Americana. Unkonwn to Cowan, Graff or Eberstadt. Binding somewhat worn, particularly at the extremities. Text a little soiled. Contemporary owner's signature in pencil on front blank leaf. A good copy.

(6 5/8" x 10 3/8"). 10pp. Signature in ink at the top of the front wrapper of Edwin H. Abbott, a Boston lawyer who subsequently became President of the Wisconsin Central Railroad. There is another ink inscription on the front wrapper: "May 1861 from R,R,B," Legal counsel for Adams argued that interstate railroads were still subject to federal bankruptcy laws passed by Congress. Wrapper has some light soiling, but overall a near fine copy.
