Very Good. 1958. TLS with an original watercolor sketch of two Native Americans, one on horseback, the other smoking a pipe. In manuscript the creator has written "Station Sioux - Translation Buffalo Chips Filter Best." Letter is dated to September 7, 1958 and is signed Tut(?) in blue ink. In top left corner is written "Tuttle" in red ink. The illustration was sketched in pencil and filled in with yellow, red, brown and black watercolors. The letter is in good condition, has mailing folds and top and bottom edges are deckled, light soiling on verso. The letter was written to Leo and discusses an article for Gunsport, and how television doesn't like funny heroes anymore. ; 10 1/4" x 7"; 1 pp .

Very Good. C. W. Carter, [Salt Lake City, Utah. ] 4 ½” x 7”. Very Good. Photographer’s imprint stamped on verso; reads “C. W. Carter - S. L. City. ” Title and previous owner’s annotations in contemporary manuscript. Mount has light soiling, photo has light yellowing and soiling. This cabinet card depicts the Salt Lake Tabernacle built between 1864-67. It can seat around 7,000 people. Charles William Carter (1832-1918) produced numerous views of Utah and Mormon life. He was active in Salt Lake City from 1867 to 1896. Mautz 601. .

The title "Taku Glacier / Alaska." , the number "24", and the copyright "Winter & Pond / Juneau, Alaska" all appear in the negative. Photo measures about 10 ½ x 6 ¾ inches. Date unknown. No content on verso. Photo paper is somewhat wavy; a few very small spots of discoloration. Overall, very good condition. Lloyd Valentine Winter (1866-1945) and Edwin Percy Pond (1872-1943) operated a photography studio in Alaska for over 50 years starting in the 1890s. They were known for documenting the Klondike Gold Rush, the culture of the indigenous Tlingit people, and many glaciers and landmarks near Juneau. Entirely in the Sioux language so topic unknown to this cataloguer. Most of the pamphlet material from the Riggs' were Christian in nature. Publications from the Santee Normal Training School Press were typeset and printed by students. Theodore Riggs, son of Stephen Riggs, continued his father's work at the Santee Normal Training School. Stephen Return Riggs was a 19th century missionary who worked with the Dakota Sioux and translated and wrote many texts in Dakota.
