A very good copy with minor wear to the wrappers.<br /> <br /> This anthology of stories by famous Russian authors, such as Andreev, Bunin, Gorky, Korolenko, Kuprin, Staniukovich, and Chekhov, was printed by Lorenz Ellwanger in Bayreuth. <br /> <br /> This book was published by the Russian refugees and printed in a very small run to be distributed in post-war Germany's Displaced Persons (DP) camps. Due to difficult circumstances in those camps, including a lack of resources and military censorship, such publications are a testament to the resilience and determination of the displaced persons community during this challenging time in history.

Anna Akhmatova is considered to be one of the most outstanding Russian poets-lyricists of the 20th century. This collection was written and self-published in 1935-1940, years of horrible Stalin regime. Her son was arrested and exiled to a prison in Leningrad for seventeen months. Her terrible sufferings during this time, Akhmatova expressed in her collection of poems Requiem. She was expelled from the Union of Writers of the USSR in 1946.<br /> <br /> No other copies in the trade, as of June 2020.
