A title in the Gilcrease-Oklahoma series on Western art and artists. A clever promotional pamphlet told in verse & dedicated to the "juvenile patrons" of the Oak Hall Clothing House. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was apparently incensed at the firm's use of advertising poems patterned on his style.

Brief wear (including slight fraying & a couple of nicks) at spine extremities & corners, spine gilt dull, previous owner's name in ink at the first blank page, moderately toned, offsetiing at last blank from news clipping, Good or better. An adventure story for boys featuring wonder dog Boru, an Irish Wolfhound, which was originally published serially in Boy's Life magazine. The author was a prolific contributor to the pulp magazines of Street & Smith.

Octavo (9.25" x 6.5"), xvi & 496 pages plus 16 unnumbered pages of illustrations from photographs. Publisher's dark gray cloth lettered in blue & green on the spine, in pictorial dust jacket.
Bottom edge of the text block briefly soiled, otherwise near fine in good or better dust jacket, moderately soiled, with a bit of creasing & edge wear including nicks & a one inch tear without loss.

Brief edge wear, lightly soiled, couple of leaves with tiny tears in the margin (not affecting text), small stain affecting rear cover & last couple of leaves, otherwise very good.
"Old Dominion Academy was moved to Berkeley Springs in 1914 and located on on Market Street. Just downhill was one of two houses used for out of town students. The military academy lasted about a decade. It later served as a public junior high called The Annex."

[Bruno Heroux] depicting the Winkies presenting delicacies & flowers to a naked, winged infant. Text in German & English. Not found in OCLC as of 11/18/2023.
Lightly soiled, slight edge wear, lower corner of page 3 with soft diagonal crease, otherwise very good or better.
A delightful memento from the halcyon days of luxury travel by ocean liner, this featuring Heroux's beloved Winkies. Given a choice, we would probably opt for Eulenspiegel's favorite: "Eggs from Wild Pigeons, stuffed with Beluga Cavier."

Saint Paul, [Minnesota]: Hand-printed at Midnight Paper Sales Press, 1981. First edition, limited to 70 copies of which this is no. 62, signed "Gaylord" at the colophon. 16mo (approx. 6" x 4¾"), three unbound sheets folded once vertically forming 12 unnumbered pages plus plain grey end sheets, laid-in to blue pictorial wraps decorated with a diminutive Schanilec woodcut. The title page features a woodcut printed from a magnesium plate. Additionally laid-in is a small, laser-printed broadside, the opening line reading "The Ninth section of Thomas McGrath's epic poem…," apparently one of approximately 20 examples which were not included in copies issued prior to 1991. Augusta, [Georgia],no publisher, 1866.Folio broadside (approximately 15" x 13") printed on medium paper employing different fonts & sizes of type. This copy with extensive annotations in pencil providing notes & prices realized suggesting the original owner was present for the sale. Not found in OCLC as of 7/7/2022. Old folds, shallow loss in the upper margin briefly affecting a few letters, moderately foxed, toned, & soiled, couple of nicks at fold intersects, still an attractive example of a fragile broadside.Producing a significant portion of the armaments used late in the Civil War, the Augusta Arsenal was not surrendered until May 3, 1865.

The Electrical Cooking School was established by the Portland Electric Power Company & sponsored by the local newspaper primarily as a marketing ploy. As noted in the August 15, 1925 issue of the Journal of Electricity, "the women invited to attend this class are made up of actual prospects, those recently sold ranges and others who have come of their own accord through advertisements seen in the newspaper or through the notice posted at the entrance to the building. The great advantage, is in the opportunity given to convert prospects to the method of electrical cooking."

Elizabeth, New Jersey: Alfred S. Campbell Art Company (credited in the negative), 1899. The image measures 3.5 inches by 9 inches, framed to 14.75 inches by 9.25 inches. Please note, we have not examined this out of the frame but it appears to be a hand-colored platinum print mounted directly behind an identically sized piece of glass.
Photo with browning along the edges, frame soiled, with shallow edge chipping, still quite lovely.
Alfred S. Campbell (1840 - 1912) emigrated from England to the United States in 1866, a photographer and entrepreneur, he managed the photography studio of Napoleon Sarony. In about 1871 he founded the Alfred S. Campbell Art Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey, additionally known as AS Campbell Art Company. Thereafter, with Rudolf Eickemeyer, he opened Campbell Studios in New York City. His fine art photographs can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art & the Getty Museum.

Lightly foxed & stained, slight edge wear, diagonal corner crease throughout, Good or better. As described in Around Southwick (Arcadia Publishing, 1997), Edward Gillett "pioneered the use of wild flowers in gardens and introduced rhododendrons and azaleas to northern climes." Not in Romaine, OCLC finds one (National Agricultural Library) as of 2/5/2019.

Narrow octavo (9" x 3.75"), 8 pages, illustrated, in original textured green card covers lettered & decorated in gilt. Additionally included is a promotional brochure for the club (dated 1924 in ink) comprising a single sheet measuring 7" x 6.25" folded once to form 4 pages. Worn: newly stapled (replacing rusted staples), rear cover torn horizontally (now repaired with archival tissue), staining from a previous repair, gilt dull, foxed & soiled, previous owner's name in pencil at page one, otherwise Good. The brochure is foxed & the same previous owner's name is in pencil on the front cover. "The club house will be constructed of stone and will be of colonial design ... Tabloid newspaper measuring 15 inches by 11.5 inches with 16 pages, illustrated throughout from photos & art work. Folded horizontally as issued, slight edge wear, moderately toned, otherwise very good. Off Our Backs, edited by a consensus collective, was initially published on February 27, 1970 and ran continuously until 2008 when financial constraints forced termination. It was the longest running publication of its kind. As gleaned from the website of the University of Maryland, which holds the archive for this important journal, the mission of Off Our Backs was "to provide news and information about women's lives and feminist activism; to educate the public about the status of women around the world; to serve as a forum for feminist ideas and theory; to be an information resource on feminist, women's, and lesbian culture; and to seek social justice and equality for women worldwide."
