Greene's intro is dated 1866 but there is no title page or publisher listed; this 96-page edition is distinct from that with a title page labeled Ticknor & Fields 1866. The pages here are numbered 417 to 514, suggesting it is an early reprint from another source. Bancroft essentially accuses Greene in his book of being incompetent for not holding Fort Washington in November 1776 against a British attack. George Washington Greene, his grandson, took offense at this and presented this lengthy response in pamphlet form. Bancroft responded in the North American Review in April 1867, noting that a "pamphlet" by one of Greene's grandsons which "in itself, does not merit my notice. It assumes the appearance of fairness by a parade of documents and authorities; but many of the documents are irrelevant, decisive ones are left out; and some of those which are confidently cited are unhistoric." Greene offered his rebuttal in July 1867.

241 pages. William Allen Butler (1825-1902) was a lawyer in New York (and one-time president of the American Bar Association) who wrote poetic satires. He published his most famous poem, Nothing to Wear, anonymously in 1857 in Harper's Weekly but stepped forward to claim his work after someone else tried to claim credit for it. The book is inscribed and signed by William Allen Butler to E. Francis Hyde, Esq. a legal colleague and dated January 1903. Book includes an engraved portrait of Butler opposite title page, with tissue intact.
