"The first comprehensive review of the biology of kangaroos, wallabies, and rat-kangaroos, of which about 50 species are known from Australia and a further 13 or so from Papua New Guinea," based on a symposium on the biology of macropods held in Sydney in May 1988. A very good copy with mild sunning to the spine, some foxing on the edges of the text block. In the very scarce dust jacket, which has internal tape reinforcements and chips missing from the head and foot of the spine and one corner of the front panel. Account of the unsuccessful 1930 International Himalaya Expedition led by Gunter Dyrenfurth, which was plagued by bad weather, an avalanche, and other mishaps. Smythe describes the extensive preparations for the expedition, the Himalayan scenery, travels in the region--including a visit to the Pemayangste Monastery, and the party's successful ascent of Jonsong (24,344 feet). Very good, with light wear and soiling to covers. Among the contents: "The Influence of Public School Art in the Commercial World," "The Use and Misuse of Tests," "A Project in Health and Education," "Hays, the Marvel City of Northwest Kansas," "Hutchinson, the Queen City of the Plains.

Published for the Association of Czechoslovak Spa Visitors and Friends of Karlovy Vary. Undated, ca. 1928. 5 x 9 in., pp 35, [11] (ads), with illustrations from photographs. Wrappers somewhat soiled, faint odor of cigarette smoke; good. Karlovy Vary [called Karlsbad in Germnan and Carlsbad in English] is a spa town in western Bohemia known for its many hot springs. This book seeks to promote tourism to Czechoslovakia in general and Karlovy Vary in particular on the grounds that "visits to climatic spas and health resorts together with traveling are a necessity for educated people and are the best means for the prevention and cure of diseases and for the maintainence of health." The qualities of the different spas are described in some detail, as are the complaints treated and cures effected. For those who tire of bathing, there are also itineraries for walks and sightseeing excursions. One copy located in OCLC, at the National Library of the Czech Republic.
