Description:
Boston: Little, Brown & Co, 1954. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Early, unstated printing with original published date of 1954. Cloth. 269pp. Illustrated with vintage photos, including of the author. Truly a Canadian classic, the memoir of the mother of famous Canadian historian and personality, Pierre Berton. Very slight slant to binding, but still fine in vg+ pc dj. We love the dust jacket art of Paul Galdone. which shows Berton in a long red dress and hat, with yellow cloak, standing with purse and handbag in hand with other luggage on a pier on the Yukon River at Dawson City, with a retreating steamboat. Very scarce in this early printing.

ILN, London, 1892, 1892. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair. Original edition. Three months of the Illustrated London News, Oct 1, 1892, through the end of the year. Folio. Poor condition with all pages stained. However, even with the staining of the prints and pages, this large folio volume should not be relegated to oblivion. There is much attention given in words & illustrations to the life and passing of England's great poet, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, who had just died. There is the complete, serialized novel by Thomas Hardy, "The Pursuit of the Well-Beloved", with the interesting masthead for each of the twelve segments. Advertising and art work are classic Victorian and endlessly fascinating. Be warned now, condition: The first 2/3 of the volume are heavily stained on the upper portion of the leaves, and the last 1/3 is heavily and dreadfully stained also on the bottom half. This is not a tea or coffee stain, but of a substance somewhat oily in texture that is still just a touch noticeable. The…
