NY: Books, Inc.. 1925. 333pp. No dust jacket. The boards show dampstaining, especially the back cover, but this does not extend to the pages. The gilt on the front board is still bright. There is a chip missing from the top of the spine, slightly affecting the darkened gilt design. The book is lavishly illustrated. There is a full-page, full-color print opposite the b&w-illustrated title page, along with 23 full-page b&w scenes and numerous smaller illustrations scattered throughout the text. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons. 1972. 64pp. The top edges of the boards are sun-faded, but the book is otherwise nearly pristine. The dust jacket is a bit worn, especially at the corners and edges. The only tears are a few tiny ones at the corners and top and bottom of the spine, but there are rubbing marks on the front and back panels. Unlike some other copies of this book offered online, this one is NOT ex-library, and the interior text and pictures are unmarked. (59456) . Very Good. 68412811X . Hardcover.

NY: Henry Holt and Co.. 1909. 130pp. Gilt bright, including top edge gilt. Binding strong. The trimmer at the printing plant didn't do their job properly, and as a result some of the pages are still connected at their leading edges. They could be carefully separated with a paper knife. NY: Alfred A. Knopf. 1959. 264, viiipp. LOC #59-9257. Ex-library, possibly from the Bethlehem Steel Company, as there is a stamp on the title page reading "BSCo. ARCHIVES". There is a small dent at the top of the rear board, and three of the four corners are just slightly bumped. There are a few minor soil spots here and there, but hardly noticeable. The spine is not faded and the spinal gilt is still bright. There is no dust jacket, but the d.j. flaps have been cut off and pasted inside the rear cover (the book description front flap and the "about the authors" rear flap). The glue has dried out over the past 64 years, so the flaps are simply laid in now atop the glue discoloration. Also laid in on page 5 is an erratum slip. The book is about archaeology directed at mostly early American sites like Jamestown, Thoreau's Walden Pond cabin, Thomas Jefferson's birthplace, the early ironworks at Saugus, MA, and others. Boston: Samuel T. Armstrong, and Crocker and Brewster. 1831. 654pp. The covers are well-worn and rubbed. The spinal gilt is surprisingly bright, but the leather is cracked and the spinal labels are split down the middle. The first free leaf is almost detached, but all the other pages appear to be present and tightly bound. There is a damp half-circle stain at the bottom open edge of the first ~50 and last ~25 pages, but it's not too terrible. The pages are all affected with brown spotting. There is pencil writing on the final few blank leaves. There may some leaves (actual tree leaves) or other items serving as bookmarks. There is a scrapped area on the back cover. For all these many defects, the book is surprisingly solid and in no danger of falling apart for being nearly 200 years old. (59180) . Acceptable. Hardcover.
