Chicago: The ?berry Company, 1902. First. Hard Bound. Ex lib with library items removed from the pastedowns. Blind stamp on title page. Text and photos very good. Book square and tight./None.. EXTREMELY RARE UNION REGIMENTAL HISTORY. The unit manned six guns and fought in the Western Theater in all the major battles there. This dealer has seen it one other time in 25 years. That copy was missing pages and offered for $200. It is more than a history, looks like it was a reunion piece also. Notes in the book indicate that the official records were lost in the Chicago fire and more in a members house fire. Therefore, the history is brief, but comprehensive enough to know what and where things were done.

Duke would later write a popular account of Morgan's most famous raid: 1863's Morgan's Raid and also an excellent autobiography. He took over Morgan's command after Morgan was shot by Union soldiers in 1864. At the end of the war, Duke was among Confederate President Jefferson Davis's bodyguards after his flight from Richmond. New York: Veteran Volunteer Publishing, 1891. First Edition. HB. Overall a good book. Spine lattering and imprint on front board bright. Square and tight./No Jacket. A keeper. The Sixth served in the Florida Panhandle at Pensacola and Santa Rosa Island. Accounts about that phase of the War are virtually nonexistent, I know I lived there 26 years. The book most likely was once owned by Sergeant William Knappmann who served in Company H of the regiment. His photo is found on page 11 and his named is mentioned on page 54. This is gleaned from a death notice for Martha Knappmann that is tipped in on the ffep. She was probably William's wife. A very brief unit history is tipped onto the back gluedown. A handsome book containing rare photos and impressions of the Florida area.

My research found there is virtually nothing written about these two historic units. THIS BOOK MAY BE IT!! The units served in fighting commands, namely Jones' and Jenkin's Brigades, Pickett's Division, Longstreet's Corps. They fought in both the Eastern and Western Theaters. A history was prepared in about 1885 by members of the unit and reviewed for accuracy at several reunions before being published in this little book. This is a scarce one. NY: Ogden, Thulstrup, Davidson, etal, 1912. A later gathering of the photos. Wraps in a folder. The 16 parts VG+, binder G/G+./None. An overlooked compilation of Civil War photos. Many, many Brady photographs along with other noted period photographers. Excellent narrative to support the photos. This series came out about prior to the Miller set which became the popular set to own. Lossing's work is dated to 1895 while Miller's has a 1911/12 publication date. Nonetheless this 1912 Lossing work stands by itself. It is in 16 parts, each a wrapper offering, all encased in a tie-type binder. The parts are near fine, the binder did its job in protecting the parts and is just G/G+. If interested in Civil War photography, this is a must have set. What makes this set extra special are the colored plates in each of the 16 issues. (See one in pictures). There are 15 that are near fine and one VG. These alone are worth the price of the set. There is a slight increase in postage to handle the set.
