About This Item

Cincinnati: Miami Printing and Publishing, 1867. First. Hard Cover. As good as I have seen, but never saw one in excellent condition. Book has had professional restoration making it tight and square. New endpapers. Spine lettering faded. In its original green cloth binding./None.. General Duke's most noted service in the war was as second-in-command for his brother-in-law John Hunt Morgan. Duke would later write a popular account of Morgan's most famous raid: 1863's Morgan's Raid and also an excellent autobiography. He took over Morgan's command after Morgan was shot by Union soldiers in 1864. At the end of the war, Duke was among Confederate President Jefferson Davis's bodyguards after his flight from Richmond.

There is no better account of Morgan than this lengthy narrative.

Nevins I-83. Dornbusch III-1229. Howes 548.
