La Suze, France: Laurent Ramadier, 1987. Very good. La Suze, France: Laurent Ramadier, [1987]. The eighth issue of this influential crossover thrash fanzine, often cited as a French counterpart to Metalion's seminal Slayer Magazine (Norway). Capturing glimpses of death metal and black metal in their infancy, this issue features interviews with Morbid Angel, Terrorizer, and Nuclear Death, among others; numerous demo and album reviews, including Napalm Death's Scum and Mayhem's Deathcrush; and advertisements for other zines. Photomechnically reproduced on both sides of 17" x 11" sheets of white paper that are folded in half and stapled. Text in English, with an introductory note in French. Laid in is a typed note from Ramadier written on the verso of a flyer advertising the second issue of Profusion Zine (Canada). Light soiling and toning to the pictorial wrappers; else very good.

A near fine copy in an especially bright dust jacket that has been neatly reinforced with brown paper on the verso. Jonathan (1914-90) published his first young adult novel, The Movie Scout, or the Thrill Hunters, when he was just 19 (Dan Hyland is his fourth). The one-time publicist, newspaper columnist, aspiring playwright, and local radio personality from the Chicago suburbs is perhaps best known today for his 1938 advice book, Gentlemen Aren't Sissies: A Modern Guidebook for the Young Man Around Town Who Wants to Know His Wat Around, which he subsequently updated in 1948 and 1951 under the title Guide Book for the Young Man Around Town. By the time Dan Hyland was published, the crusading reporter was already a well-established trope in fiction, stage, and screen - muckraker Ray Stannard Baker's "Pippins", the story of a young…

Guns, New Haven, The Cherry Bombz, Hanoi Rocks, The Lords of the New Church, and Warbride. The material is mostly near fine, some with small chips and tears from being mounted on bulletin boards and posts. The flyers are printed with pictures of the glam and heavy metal bands in various poses wearing tight pants and open shirts, with the signature big hair and makeup favored at the time. Small drawings of flowers, hearts, caricatures, and typographical band names festoon the edges of the colorful flyers. One flyer features the L.A. Guns posing for the camera with "Fiendish is the word for it!" written off to the side. The L.A. Guns were one…

Cambridge, Massachusetts and London, England: The MIT Press, 1991. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Celebration of two decades of work by artist David Hammons (b.1943), who has risen to prominence while at the same time consciously ducking the attention of critics, galleries, and museums, preferring to "do things in the street". London: Jonathan Cape, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Near fine. The author's second novel, a parody of Agatha Christie's country house mysteries, concerning a group of friends who convene at a rural manor to take drugs. A number of Amis' characteristics show up here for the first time: mordant black humor, obsession with the zeitgeist, authorial intervention, a character subjected to sadistically humorous misfortunes and humiliations, and a defiant casualness. Octavo. Original black cloth binding, with gilt titles. A near fine copy in a near fine, price-clipped dust jacket with just a hint of edgewear. From the library of revered English actor, comedian, musician, and writer Eric Idle, accompanied by a letter of provenance. Idle (b.1943) is a founding member of the British comedy troupe Monty Python, as well as the parody rock group The Rutles, and is the writer of the music and lyrics for the hit Broadway musical Spamalot.
