The memoir of Robert Smith, one of the legendary Flying Tigers, who scored nine victories and went on to serve under the Tigers’ commander, Gen. Chennault, in the U.S. Air Force after they were disbanded. Much of the book consists of facsimiles from Smith’s diary. Signed inscription by the author on half-title page. A fine copy, in rubbed dust jacket with some edge wear. (362p., circa 80 photos, 2 maps, roster.)

Very Good. 8vo (172 pages; illustrated with black and white photographs; 10 maps, table, battle honors and awards, references, color map end papers). This is a very good copy of the Second Printing in an unclipped dust jacket. It is a fine history written by one of the few to serve in all five major campaigns. The 4,500 man unit earned over 18,000 individual decorations and, in just twenty days of fighting in France, five Presidential Unit Citations.

A full and detailed World War I history of minesweepers and their crews, derived from their personal experiences. This is a bright and crisp copy of the First English edition, without dust jacket. There is a very gentle front hinge break, else fine. Recently deaccessioned from the library of the New York Yacht Club, the book bears the club’s stunning vintage bookplate on the front pastedown, along with a discreet Case and Shelf notation. No other markings.

Excellent portrait in oils of Winston Churchill painted by an unknown artist who signed their name as: “TAYT.” The canvas measures 9 x12 1/2 inches and is handsomely framed in gilt-edged black ash (14 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches overall). Provenance unknown, but a first-class piece of work; strong, well-painted, evocative.

First published in 1929, this lovely new edition was issued on the occasion of Tenant’s 80th birthday. A very good copy in a dust jacket with an edge chip near the head of the spine, else fine.

London, circa 1920s. Original Pencil Drawing on Paper . No Binding. Very Good. Image: 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches (Framed: 22 x 29 inches). This original pencil drawing by Edward Tennyson Reed was created for The Bystander magazine’s “1000th Number,” in the 1920s. It features Reed’s caricatures of (clockwise l to r): Lord Cave, Stanley Baldwin, Lord Salisbury, H.H. Asquith, David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill, all avidly reading The Bystander. The drawing measures 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches and is signed in pencil with Reed’s monogram. It has been handsomely matted and framed (22 x 29 inches overall).
