Lambton Hall , Durham - the seat of Lord Durham Jones & Co, 1829 Originally produced for the "Views of the Seats, Mansions, Castles, etc. of Noblemen and Gentlemen" (London : 1829-1831). Lambton Castle stands above Chester-le-Street, County Durham and is a stately home, the ancestral seat of the Lambton family, the Earls of Durham. Largely constructed as it is between 1820 and 1828 by John Lambton, first Earl of Durham and one-time Governor General of Canada, it was built around Harraton Hall, a 17th-century mansion. The castle was designed by architects Joseph Bonomi the Elder and his son Ignatius and built in the style of a Norman castle, as was the fashion of the time.

Newport: The Newport Mercury, 1811. 1st Edition. No binding. Good. The Newport Mercury, October 12, 1811, four page newspaper. Approximately 40 column inches in length describing why USA should be at war with the Britain. 4 pages, 12.5" x 19" deep, folded to 12.5" x 9.5" approximately. The pages have be torn apart along the 20" height in the centre leaving a ragged edge. No type is affected. Otherwise condition is good. America officially delcared War on Great Britiain which included Canada, on June 18, 1812. This was 8 months after this newspaper was published. It was almost one year to the day after this article the Battle of Queenston Heights (Oct. 12, 1812) was fought.The casues of the War of 1812 is often discussed today however this is an American perspective printed in an American newspaper 8 months before the start of the War of 1812.

1957. No binding. Very Good. Lt.-Col. G.W.L. Nicholson Typed Letter signed. One page, was folded, 7-1/4 x 10 inches. Dated April 16th, 1957, on letterhead of the [Anglican Church] Diocese of Ottawa, The Synod Office, to The Editor, Globe and Mail, Toronto. Message of 88 words: sending review copy of "Faith of Our Fathers" published in 1957, by Robert Jefferson and Leonard Johnson; book given advance publicity in Diocese of Ottawa. Old staple removed marks top left corner, otherwise very good condition.The Diocese of Ottawa at the time of publication included the Deaneries of Arnprior, Carleton, Lanark, Pembroke, Prescott, Russell & Stormont. Reverend Jefferson was their Bishop. Lt.-Col. G.W.L. (Gerald William Lingen) Nicholson was a was a Canadian soldier, historian, author, and teacher. He was the Director of the Historical Section, Army Headquarters. He is best known for his 1962 book Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914-1919, the only official history of Canada's participation in World War I.

Montreal' in plate lower left; titled along bottom; mounted on board; fading lower left; unframed. Good+ condition. William McFarlane, the eldest son of William Notman, was born November 1, 1857. He became a partner in the company in 1882 before inheriting it outright on the death of his father in 1891. He named his brother Charles (1870-1955) a partner in approximately 1894.
