Japan: Gyouken, 1981. [April 1981] Hardcover and dustjacket, white binding with gold lettering. White dustjacket. Text entirely in Japanese, not English or an English translation. Book inscribed and signed by Ganri Yamashita, presented to Maurice F. Weisner. Yamashita was state minister for defense and protégé of prime-minister Kakuei Tanaka. He was elected to the House of Representatives 10 times during the Liberal Democratic Party's 38-year rule. Weisner was a United States four-star admiral who served as vice chief of Naval Operations from 1972 to 1973; commander in chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet from 1973to 1976; and commander in chief, United States Pacific Command from 1976 to 1979. During World War II, Weisner is credited with the sinking of a Japanese destroyer escort. The gift tissue (folded around dustjacket) also inscribed and signed to Admiral Weisner, this time by Admiral Heshima, Japanese Navy.
