Collates as: a - d + B - KK + a - z + aa - bb (all in 6s). Title page within border representing the Tree of Jesse. Woodcut of Queen Elizabeth I at prayer on verso of title page. Each page printed within intricately detailed decorated border after Albrecht Durer, Hans Holbein, and contemporaries. Ink ownership inscription on ffep. Else fine. A variant imprint of Griffiths 1863/22. Bound in full black morocco by Larkins with marbled endpapers and triple gilt ruled covers. All page edges gilt. Gilt dentelles. Spine with six compartments separated by gilt ruled raised bands. One compartment with gilt title "Queen Elizabeth's Book of Common Prayer" and the remaining compartments decorated with gilt floral motifs. A truly spectacular example of Victorian book production, reportedly imitating Queen Elizabeth's Prayer Book.

Bound with a Cambridge printing of the Brady & Tate Psalter dated 1810. Printed on very good thick paper with handwritten notes of changes in the liturgy due to changes in the Royal family, including the accession of Queen Victoria. A few marginal spots and apparent sooting to the extreme outer margins, but otherwise bright and clean, with the exception of the Communion which has a liquid stain (apparently from communion wine). Philadelphia: George & Wayne, 1844. First edition. Disbound. Very Good. 5 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches. 24 pages. Lightly toned, but otherwise bright and clean and free from marking, soiling and staining. Disbound. Ives was the founder of the short lived Brotherhood of the Holy Cross, and such a vocal advocate of "Oxford" or "Tractarian" theories that he was arraigned for them before the General Convention. He eventually (1852) converted to the Roman church. He was married to the daughter of Bishop John Henry Hobart, who also converted.
