London: John Murray, 1845. First edition. Velvet and metal. Very Good. Owen Jones. 7 x 10 inches. 8vo. xl + 484 pages. Collates as a-e (in 4s) + A - S (in 4s) + g - z (in 4s) + [pi] (4 leaves) + Aa - Hh (in 4s) + Ii (1 leaf). Each page printed within border with rules and chromolithographed decorations. Pages bright and clean and free from marking, soiling or staining. Rubrics printed in red. Psalter printed in two columns with half title, frontispiece and other gilded plates. Griffiths 1845/24. Cream silk moire endpapers. Gilt and gauffered edges. Gilding bright. Bound in full purple velvet with brass edges, engraved brass shield to front cover and two engraved brass clasps (one defective). All page edges gauffered. A little wear at the top and bottom of the hinges. A very attractive binding with light wear. Contained in black leather slipcase in very good condition. Slipcase repaired and lined with cloth. An extraordinary Victorian Book of Common Prayer in an unusually nice contemporary velvet and metal binding with clasps. The vignettes, initials and ornaments were designed by Owen Jones, a notable 19th Century Welsh architect.
